A few weeks ago, I got an email from the Leeds Centre for New Chinese Writing, who were putting together a workshop to put together a collaborative translation of blog post by Deng Anqing, documenting life in lockdown close to the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak. Translation is often lonely work and opportunities like this don’t come along very often, so I bashed out a reply on my keyboard and so it was interesting to get new perspectives and insights from others while working on this piece.
I think most of us feel our relationships with our families and friends have changed since the outbreak, and this is just one such story written back when there had been very few other cases identified elsewhere in the world.
I helped to translate this post as part of a translation workshop organised by the Leeds Centre for New Chinese Writing, with 123 (123!!!) other translators working on the same text—which possibly makes this one of the largest collaborative translations ever!
